“Keep your heads up and make us all proud” – First lady to Gey Hey NSMQ Contestants

First Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has congratulated the students of Wesley Girls High School competing in the National Science and Maths Quiz after the girls showed two boys schools the way out of the prestigious competition.

Wesley Girls booted out two of the favorites of the competition, Prempeh College and Accra Academy, to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Congratulations to Wesley Girls High School for advancing to the semi-final stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz. Even more admirable is shining as the only girls’ school left in the competition. Keep your head up and make us all proud!” Mrs. Akufo-Addo posted on Twitter.

The National Science and Maths Quiz has suffered the deficiency of being a male-dominated competition for a very long time. The victory of Wesley Girls High School is a very refreshing development as the nation struggles to increase the number of women in Science and Technology and other important sectors of the economy.

Ghanaians look forward to the day when a lot more girls schools will advance in the competition because that will be a clear sign that women are stepping up in the field of science.
