State discontinues case against ModernGhana.com deputy editor and 2 others

An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Asare Botwe has discharged the two modernghana.com journalists at the center of the National Security assault brouhaha and an editor with the Despite Group, Yaw Obeng Manu.

This follows an application by Senior State Attorney, Stella Ohene Appiah, that the state does not intend to continue with the case at this stage.

According to lawyer for one of the accused, Samson Lardi Anyenini, the three gentlemen were charged with stealing and unauthorized access to electronic records after National Security operatives found out one of the modernghana.com journalists in their custody had access to the PeaceFMOnline.com news portal.

ModernGhana editor, Emmanuel Adjarfo Abugri and his colleague, Emmanuel Britwum, were picked up last week by operatives of the National Security amidst accusations that they had been assaulted.

The editor at Peace FM, Yaw Obeng Manu, was later arrested and charged for the same offenses.

The case, which was filed on Friday morning, was surprisingly withdrawn by the state prosecutors at 1:30 pm when it was called.

The presiding judge discharged the three journalists striking out the case as withdrawn.

Lawyer for Emmanuel Adjarfo, Samson Lardi Anyenini says this confirms his position that his client had not committed any crime.
