EC’s guidelines for returning officers: Have first degree, experience and a car

Technically, they said experience and car are added advantages

The Electoral Commission has opened applications for people to apply to be returning officers for the upcoming District Level Elections and Referendum starting today. The applications window will close on Wednesday 18th September.

Applicants must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree for both Returning Officers and Deputy Returning Officers.

According to a statement by the EC signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs, Sylvia Annoh, “a minimum academic qualification for Returning or Deputy Returning Officer is first Degree”

“Experience in electoral work or working knowledge of Electoral Commission Operations and possession of means of transport will be an added advantage.” the statement alluded.

The EC is preparing to conduct the district level elections for assembly members together with the referendum on the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives hence the call for applications for Returning and Deputy Returning Officers.

This will be the last step in Nana Akufo-Addo’s promise to oversee the direct election of MMDCEs within 24 months of election into office.
