Ghana’s president, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lifted the partial lockdown placed on residents of the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi region following a surge in COVID-19 infections three (3) weeks ago.
In a televised statement announcing his decision, the president indicated that his science advisors have based on the data available to them gave him the green light to lift the lockdown as vigorous testing following enhanced contact tracing.
“The main reason our country has seen an increase in the number of confirmed cases over the last three (3) weeks is because of the decision we took aggressively to trace and test contacts of infected persons. This has enabled us to identify and isolate infected persons, protect the population from further infections, and contain better the spread of the virus.”
Ghana has conducted close to 70,000 tests and is ranked number one in Africa in terms of tests per million citizens.
