The Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyerematen, together with his team last Wednesday, paid a working visit to the Assembly Plant of Japan Motors in Accra.
The Minister’s visit to the facility forms part of an effort by his ministry to see to the progress of work at the facility and access the facility’s readiness to produce and contribute to the Ghanaian economy.
Hon. Alan Kyeremanteng inspected the multimillion-dollar assembly plant, which is at its completing stage and mentioned that the project would boost investor confidence when made operationalized under the Ghana Automotive Development Programme.
The Government of Ghana, as part of its transformational agenda, has identified Vehicle Assembly and Automotive Components Manufacturing as a strategic anchor industry to be facilitated and supported as part of its Ten Point Plan for industrial development. As a result of this positive signal, according to the ministry, Ghana is attracting investment in vehicle assembly from leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and investment partners, with positive projections of spill-overs into local manufacturing.
The coming into being of this project adds up to the number of already commissioned Automobile assembly plants under the leadership of H.E Akufo-Addo, whose vision is to make Ghana an automotive hub for West Africa and the larger African market. It will be recalled that Volkswagen, Nissan, Sinotruck and Katanka, a Ghanaian manufacturer, as well as other vehicle brands, have already sited assembly plants in the country in just recent times.
