As the Senior Director of Engineering, you will oversee the development and roadmap execution for the teams working on Percona’s Monitoring and Management products which include our Percona Kubernetes Operators and Percona Monitoring and Management. You will partner with the database development team to ensure that the company’s diverse portfolio provides an exceptional experience as standalone products but integrate and work even better when coupled together.
Your focus will be on the quality and timeliness of the team’s output (including code and accompanying documentation) and ensure an appropriate balance of speed to market with the robustness of solutions.
As part of Percona’s agile and growing organization, you will challenge norms and find better ways to partner with their product organization and various stakeholders to ensure the organization is meeting the needs of their user base while properly setting expectations.

As a key leader of a multicultural distributed team, you will use your experience to ensure the open-source company foster an open culture that is inclusive of all thoughts and ideas. Your leadership of development efforts will not only meet users where they are but guide them to where they should be! This is a remote role, ideally located in the Eastern Time Zone (GMT-4).
What You Will Do
- Inspire, support and lead a highly diverse and global team of leaders and engineers, upwards of 30 direct and indirect reports
- Develop people through coaching, mentoring, and management support – technical expertise growth as well as leadership growth
- Drive the development and execution of the roadmap in partnership with Product Management
- Organize teams and support Managers and Directors in delivering results while avoiding the temptation to overengineer solutions
- Continually measure and improve quality and consistency of development outputs Create a working environment that fosters trust, creativity and failing forward while also maintaining accountability
- Establish tight feedback loops between Product, Engineering and stakeholders
- Ensure development processes are reasonably consistent across the board
- Ensure that your teams are active participants in the various open source communities where Percona is engaged
- Enhance engineer incubation processes to ensure Percona is creating a constant pipeline of talent as they grow and scale
- Own external resource relationships with trusted partners
- Own budget, forecast growth needs, look for opportunities to create efficiencies
- Contribute to Percona’s thought leadership through blogging and conference presentations
Your Experience
- Strong leadership abilities in getting the best out of a globally distributed team
- Extensive experience in remotely managing individual contributors and people managers
- A cross-team facilitator: working with other teams and figuring out how to get things running more smoothly
- Experience delivering both shipped and SaaS software solutions
- Experience in Observability, Databases and/or Orchestration
- Maturity to build relationships and operate across the organization (not locked to only operate in the vertical chain)
- Active participation in Open Source communities, knowledge of open source development processes
- Advanced to expert level English communication skills, both verbally and in written form
