Director of Television at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Ebenezer Ampaabeng has advised media practitioners, especially those in electronic and social media to courageously pursue the truth but should not be abusive.
According to a report by GBC, Mr. Ampaabeng made this observation at the launch of “Media in Ghana: the Bold, Beautiful, Ugly and Maverick (Media BBUM) at the Ghana International Press Centre on Wednesday. The veteran broadcaster indicated that journalists can put out facts and figures without sounding abusive and insulting.
“It is good to be bold and assertive but not to be insulting” Mr. Ampaabeng advised.
He was of a high hope that the airing of the exceptional quality of some past journalists will help re-orient the minds of current and future journalists.
In the same vein, legendary Ghanaian recording engineer Zapp Mallet took a swipe at the media in Ghana, accusing them of abandoning their core mandate of shaping society and rather giving all attention to mad men and women to insult themselves.
“Ghanaian media is about giving sick people attention, mad men and women coming to insult each other in the media,” Mr. Mallet wrote in a post on Twitter.
