The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration says to applicants for 48-page passport booklets that the Passport Office until further notice can only issue 32-page booklets to all applicants who have requested the 48-page booklets “due to a surge in demand and the continuing challenges with the supply chain.”
In order not to worsen the situation for passport applicants, the ministry says those “who have applied for 48-page booklets do not need to submit another application for 32-page booklets. The conversion will be done at no further cost to such applicants.”
The Ministry also promises to refund to applicants the difference in the cost of applying for the 32-page booklets and 48-page booklets.
The Ministry ran out of 32-page booklets earlier in the year. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey announced that the shortage of the 32-page passport booklet was due to the effect of Covid-19 on global supply chains.
Addressing a press briefing on Monday, February 7, 2022, she said, “I regret to announce that due Covid related disruptions to global supply chains, we currently do not have in stock the 32-page booklet. The Ministry placed an order sometime in August last year, but the booklets are yet to be delivered.”
