The country’s first senior high school for the creative arts will open in the Ashanti Region next year, according to hints from the Ministry of Education.
According to the Ministry, the establishment’s purpose is to aid in the growth of the nation’s lucrative creative arts sector, which brings in millions of Ghana Cedis each year.
In remarks at the Ghana Science and Technology Explorer Prize (GSTEP) and Exhibition Awards ceremony in Accra, the education minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, revealed that since science and creative arts classes have just merged, the school will also integrate science in its curriculum and have 12 science labs to improve practicals.
“Next year, we open our first Creative Arts secondary school which will bring together children across the country to excel in the Creative Arts field. You know how the Creative Arts and Science are merging, so consequently, the Creative Arts school to be established in Kumasi will have 12 Science labs and the students are going to do science. I am sure you may have heard of the science fun movies and our movies will also be science-based.”
In December 2019, President Akufo-Addo turned the first sod for the first Creative Arts SHS in Kwadaso, Ashanti Region.
The school was 70% finished, according to the president’s March 2022 speech to the country.
A studio laboratory, classroom blocks, and a dormitory with 750 beds for females and 500 for boys were among the facilities under construction.
A Creative Arts Fund was also started by President Akufo-Addo to gather money for the school’s completion and industry growth.
