The Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana said he wants to help Southampton keep its Premier League status.
The 22-year-old made a 25 million pound transfer from French Ligue 1 team Stade Rennes to the Premier League team on the final day of the transfer window.
He came off the bench at halftime in the 3-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday to make his Premier League debut.
The Saints now have 15 points from 21 games, which keeps them in last place in the Premier League after the loss.
However, the Ghanaian forward is eager to contribute and assist the Saints to move out of the bottom three after speaking favorably about his deadline-day deal from Rennes.
“At this moment, it was the right place for me to come,” he said, speaking in an interview for Southampton’s club website. “I am looking to play more and I felt that here was the right place to get that and to improve myself moving forward.
“I’m very excited to show each and everyone here what I’m capable of doing. Hopefully, I can make an impact in the game, create chances, score goals, and most importantly get the win.
“I’m looking forward to giving my all to the team. Do what I do best, and help the team win. That’s the most important thing. Hopefully, we’re able to win more games and stay in the league. That’s the main thing.”
The forward’s move was finalized last Wednesday at 12.30 p.m. after the January transfer deadline. He then traveled to England to meet his new teammates on Friday before being included to the matchday squad against Brentford.
Sulemana, 20, says he adapted to his new environment fast and is now hoping to make an impact for Southampton in the upcoming weeks.
