Southampton’s upcoming Premier League match against Bournemouth will be without defender Mohammed Salisu, who is still recovering from a groin injury that has kept him out of the last few games. Ruben Selles, Southampton’s assistant coach, confirmed Salisu’s unavailability and added that the player is currently working his way back to full fitness.
Since joining the Saints in 2020 from Real Valladolid, Salisu has been plagued by injuries, although he has shown glimpses of promise when fit. Southampton is currently fighting to avoid relegation and will be hoping for a win against Bournemouth on Thursday to boost their survival chances. The return of striker Che Adams, who has recovered from a calf problem, will be a much-needed boost for the team.
In his pre-match press conference, Selles also provided updates on other Southampton players. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, on loan from Arsenal, is now available after being ineligible for the last match against his parent club. However, the news is not as good for Tino Livramento, who is still working his way back to full fitness after a serious knee injury that has kept him out for a year. Teenage defender Juan Larios is also out for the rest of the season due to a thigh injury.
With just six games left in the season, Southampton will be looking to secure a positive result against Bournemouth to climb out of the relegation zone.
