Former National Democratic Congress flagbearer aspirant Stephen Atubiga claimed that former president John Dramani Mahama’s decision to reconsider running for government again required divine intervention.
He claimed that following the 2016 “betrayal” and disappointment, the former president had made up his mind not to run for office, and that his family fully supported his choice.
In an interview on Good Evening Ghana on Thursday, Atubiga revealed that because Mahama’s family was so certain he would not run for president in 2020, one of them decided to support Prof. Joshua Alabi’s campaign instead.
He claimed to be one of those putting pressure on the former president to reconsider his decision not to run for office.
He continued by saying that the former president got in touch with him afterward and announced his decision to run for office once more.
Atubiga, who was also planning to run for flagbearer after Mahama informed him he wouldn’t run again in 2020, said he withdrew from the campaign out of respect for the former president when he changed his mind.
