The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a stern caution regarding the reported sale and operations of Starlink equipment within Ghana. In an official statement released today, the NCA unequivocally clarified that it has not granted any form of license for Starlink’s operations nor has it type-approved any of their equipment.
According to Section 3(1) of the Electronic Communications Act 2008, Act 775, the NCA emphasized that the provision of electronic communication services within Ghana without proper authorization or licensing is a direct contravention of the law. This includes the operation of a public electronic communications service or network or the provision of a voice telephony service without prior licensing from the NCA.
The NCA, therefore, warns the general public against engaging with any purported Starlink equipment or services, stressing that any entity involved in the sale or operations of this service should immediately cease their activities.
Furthermore, the NCA assured the public of its commitment to uphold fairness, participation, and healthy competition within the market. As a statutory body established by law, the Authority pledged to safeguard the interests of its licensees and consumers while ensuring compliance with established regulatory standards.
The NCA urges citizens to remain vigilant and compliant with the laws governing electronic communications within the country. Any queries or concerns regarding electronic communication services and licensing can be directed to the National Communications Authority for clarification and guidance.
