Shortly after the Ghana Football Association released the list of members of the search committee tasked with finding a new coach for the Black Stars, Angel FM’s Saddick Adams raised serious concerns about the credibility of the committee’s chairman, Mr. Mark Addo.
In a recent Facebook post, Adams pointed out Mark Addo’s involvement in key leadership positions during critical moments in the team’s recent history, questioning whether he is the right person to lead the search for what Adams refers to as the “Messianic Black Stars coach.”
Adams began his critique by highlighting Mark Addo’s role as the Chairman of the Black Stars during the disastrous AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast. The team’s underwhelming performance in that tournament has left a lasting impact on the reputation of Ghanaian football, and Adams believes that holding Mark Addo accountable for that failure is crucial in assessing his suitability to lead the search committee.
The broadcast journalist did not stop there; he also brought attention to Mark Addo’s chairmanship during the embarrassing World Cup exit in Qatar 2022.
Adams emphasized that each member of the management received $100,000 despite the team’s underperformance. This raises questions about the decision-making process and financial accountability within the Ghana Football Association in association with Mark Addo.
Saddick Adams further criticized Mark Addo’s involvement in the search committee that brought in Otto Addo as the coach and his role as chairman of the team that recommended Chris Hughton.
These appointments, according to Adams, have not yielded the desired results, contributing to the overall decline of Ghanaian football.
Adams concluded his Facebook post with a sad lament, expressing his concern that Ghanaian football is not making progress. He argued that in the country, failure is being rewarded rather than rectified, creating a cycle of underachievement that hampers the growth of the sport.
