Shortly after parting ways with AS Roma, Jose Mourinho has reportedly struck a verbal agreement with a surprising destination.
The highly regarded Portuguese manager seems poised to embark on his next managerial challenge, with indications pointing towards him taking the reins at Al Shabab in the Saudi Pro League, as per reports from The Mirror.
This development comes in the wake of Mourinho’s departure from AS Roma earlier this week, following a 3-1 defeat to Italian rivals AC Milan.
The Giallorossi found themselves in eighth place on the Serie A table at the time, with eight victories and 29 points from 20 matches.
Interestingly, back in October, Mourinho disclosed that he had rejected an unprecedented offer from Saudi club Al Hilal, which he described as “the biggest and craziest offer a coach has ever received in the history of football.”
Despite the lucrative nature of the proposal, he chose to honor his contract with the Italian side.
Now, it appears that Mourinho’s potential move to Saudi Arabia is back on the cards.
Allegedly, a Zoom meeting took place on Thursday between Mourinho and Al Shabab’s sporting director, Domenico Tite, during which the verbal agreement for Mourinho to assume the role of the club’s new manager was reached.
If the deal is finalized, sources suggest that Mourinho could be arriving in the country in the next few days.
Al Shabab has been without a manager since Igor Biscan’s dismissal last month and currently sits in 11th place on the league table, despite having notable players such as former La Liga stars Ever Banega and Yannick Carrasco.
