In a bid to shape its lineup for the 2024 general election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conducted parliamentary primaries in 111 orphan constituencies across Ghana’s 16 regions.

A total of 321 aspirants contended for a single slot in each constituency, with delegates comprising polling station and constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, the Council of Elders, the Council of Patrons, founder members, and existing MPs.

Highlights by region:

Greater Accra Region: Notable winners include Justice King Essiel (Ashaiman), Benjamin Nagne (Shai Osudoku), Dr. Benard Okoe Boye (Ledzokuku), and Jefferson Kwamina Sackey (Ablekuma Central).

Central Region: Winners emerged in constituencies like Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (Percy Dennis), Cape Coast South (Ernest Arthur), and Agona East (Hannah Asamoah).

Volta Region: Aspirants competed in 13 constituencies, with results like Diana Aburiya winning in Bongo and Dr. John Kingsley Krugu in Zebilla.

Bono Region: Results include Joe Dankwa winning in Banda, Col (rtd) Kwadwo Damoah in Jaman South, and Kojo Frempon in Wenchi.

Bono East Region: Contestants battled for victory in eight constituencies, shaping the lineup for Sene East, Atebubu-Amantin, and others.

Ashanti/Ahafo Region: Hajia Zainab, Manaf Ibrahim, and others vied for victory in constituencies like Asawase.

Upper East Region: Results featured winners like Abdallah Otito Achuliwor (Navrongo Central) and Joseph Dindiok Kpemka (Tempane).

Upper West Region: Jacob Domekaakpier Dery emerged victorious in Lawra, while Ewura S.K. Mahama secured victory in Wa East.

Eastern Region: Winners include Ernest Kumi in Akwatia, Pius Enam Hadzide in Asuogyaman, and Simon Kweku Tetteh in Lower Manya Krobo.

Western/Western North Region: Aspirants like Ernest Kumi triumphed in Amenfi Central, shaping the landscape in these regions.

Northern Region: Results unfolded in constituencies like Savelugu, with Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz emerging as the winner.

Savannah Region: Sankaara Kuubeneem Ankaara claimed victory in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, among others.

Oti Region: Winners like Krachi East’s candidate emerged, influencing the political scene in seven constituencies.

North East Region: Seven aspirants competed in Nalerigu-Gambaga and two in Bunkpurugu.

The primaries showcased a diverse array of winners, setting the stage for a dynamic political landscape leading up to the 2024 elections.
