Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, spearheaded a high-profile delegation to the Manhyia Palace, seeking resolution for alleged disparaging remarks attributed to him.

The delegation comprised influential figures, such as Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah, Chieftaincy Minister Asamoah Boateng, Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and other NPP leaders.

The purpose of this visit was to engage with the Kumasi Traditional Council and address concerns arising from Chairman Wontumi’s purported derogatory comments, particularly those directed at the revered Asantehene. The meeting’s outcome carries significant weight, potentially impacting Chairman Wontumi’s standing within the party and the broader political landscape.

The controversy traces its roots to a recent altercation between Chairman Wontumi and Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti region.

Following the Kumasi Traditional Council’s request for an explanation of Chairman Wontumi’s alleged disparaging remarks about the Asantehene, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua of the NPP was instructed to bring Chairman Wontumi in for a hearing.

The Kumasi Traditional Council, as the second-highest decision-making body within the Asante Kingdom, comprises traditional leaders who play a crucial role in maintaining cultural and political harmony. Their directive for Chairman Wontumi to appear before them underscores the seriousness of the matter and the significance of traditional values in the region.

As the NPP delegation navigates this delicate situation, the political landscape awaits the outcome of the engagement with the Kumasi Traditional Council.

The resolution, or lack thereof, may have far-reaching consequences for Chairman Wontumi and the party’s image in the Ashanti region. The eyes of both political observers and the public remain keenly focused on the developments surrounding this unprecedented interaction between the political sphere and traditional authority.
