The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a change in its Black Stars Coach Search Committee as Databank CEO Kojo Addae-Mensah steps in to replace prominent lawyer ACE Ankomah. The alteration comes after Ankomah declined the offer to assume the Vice Chair role within the five-member committee, mandated to identify and recommend a new head coach for the senior national team.
The decision to form the committee was made in response to the recent sack of the former head coach, Chris Hughton. The Ghanaian Football Association, under the leadership of President Kurt Okraku, is keen on selecting a suitable replacement to lead the Black Stars to future successes.
The GFA announced that GFA Vice President Mark Addo would chair the five-member committee, with ACE Ankomah serving as vice chair. However, Ankomah’s decision not to accept the Vice Chair role resulted in a quick change to the group’s makeup.
Though ACE Ankomah, a respected legal practitioner and football enthusiast, has not yet cited the main reason for turning down the offer to serve as Vice Chair,. Despite his withdrawal from the committee, Ankomah expressed his continued support for the GFA’s efforts to appoint a new head coach.
In response to Ankomah’s decision, the GFA acted promptly to secure a replacement, ultimately appointing Kojo Addae-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of Databank Group. Addae-Mensah brings a wealth of experience in sports administration and business leadership, making him a valuable addition to the committee.
The revised committee, now chaired by Mark Addo, consists of Kojo Addae-Mensah as well as three other members whose expertise spans various aspects of Ghanaian football. The GFA has reiterated the committee’s mandate to present their findings and recommendations to the executive council within a tight three-week timeframe.
Mark Addo, expressing confidence in the newly constituted committee, stated, “We believe that the diverse expertise of the members will contribute significantly to the process of selecting a new head coach for the Black Stars. The executive council expects a thorough and diligent search, and we are committed to ensuring that the best candidate is appointed.”
The announcement of Kojo Addae-Mensah’s inclusion in the committee has garnered countless reactions from the football community, with many expressing optimism about the committee’s ability to identify a coach capable of steering the Black Stars to greater heights.
As Ghana eagerly awaits the outcome of the committee’s efforts, the search for a new head coach for the Black Stars continues, with fans and stakeholders anticipating a decision that will shape the future of Ghanaian football.
