The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of the 16-year-old suspect driver involved in the fatal car accident that claimed two lives in East Legon. The incident occurred on Saturday, 12th October 2024, when the teenage driver, Elrad Salifu Amoako, driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20, crashed into a 4×4 Acura vehicle at Mensah Wood Street, East Legon.
Investigations have revealed that the Acura vehicle, driven by Joseph Ackah with four occupants, was hit with such force that both vehicles caught fire and were burned beyond recognition. Tragically, two young girls, Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both 12 years old, lost their lives in the fire. Three other victims in the Acura were rescued, with two treated for minor injuries and discharged, while the third remains hospitalized.
The suspect driver, along with one other occupant in the Jaguar, was also rescued and is currently receiving medical attention in the hospital.
In a related development, the suspect driver’s parents, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are in police custody, assisting with investigations into the incident.
On 15th October 2024, a delegation from the Police Management Board, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and also checked on the injured victims at the hospital. The Police have assured the public of a thorough investigation to provide closure to the grieving families, and urged the public to keep them in their prayers during this difficult time.
