The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the whereabouts of Mr. Tony Mintah, the Chief Executive Officer of NextGen Infraco, following his alleged abduction by unidentified individuals at the premises of the National Communication Authority (NCA) in Accra. The incident, which has left many shocked, took place amidst rising tensions surrounding NextGen Infraco’s involvement in the country’s controversial 5G licensing deal.
The police are urging the public to stay calm and report any relevant information concerning Mr. Mintah’s disappearance to the authorities via the designated hotline 0547927272. Updates on the investigation will be provided as more information becomes available.
NextGen Infraco is currently at the center of a major 5G internet scandal in Ghana. The company, which was established just a week before receiving a government contract to roll out the 5G network, has faced significant scrutiny. In defense of the government’s decision, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, explained that NextGen Infraco was specifically created to handle the 5G infrastructure, as no other company had the capacity to do so at the time.
According to the minister, the direct award of the contract is part of the government’s strategy to avoid past setbacks and accelerate the deployment of the 5G network in Ghana. She emphasized that the decision to use a neutral infrastructure company like NextGen was necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the new technology.
As the police continue their investigation, the public remains on edge, awaiting answers about the whereabouts of Mr. Mintah and the future of the controversial 5G rollout.
