The Ministry of National Security has vehemently denied allegations published by the Herald Newspaper claiming that officers from the Ministry and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) abducted Sylvia Baah, the Airport Services Manager of Emirates Airlines at Kotoka International Airport.

In a press release issued on Monday, November 25, the Ministry categorically refuted the claims, labeling them as baseless and misleading. It urged the public to dismiss the allegations with the contempt they deserve, emphasizing that neither the Ministry nor the NIB had any involvement in the alleged incident. “We categorically state that no officer from the Ministry or the NIB was involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah,” the statement affirmed.

The Ministry further disclosed that it has launched a formal investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the case. “We assure the public that any individuals found culpable will be made to face the full rigors of the law following the conclusion of investigations,” the Ministry stated. It also emphasized its commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights in the discharge of its duties.

The Herald Newspaper’s report, which alleged that Sylvia Baah was forcibly taken by operatives from the Ministry and the NIB, has sparked a mixed reaction among the public and civil society organizations. Some have expressed skepticism over the report, questioning its credibility, while others have called on the Ministry to expedite its investigation to provide clarity. The Ministry, however, criticized the publication, urging media outlets to verify their information before publication to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic.

Civil society groups have echoed calls for a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and maintain public trust. “This case warrants a transparent inquiry to uphold confidence in national security institutions,” a spokesperson for a leading rights group stated.

The Ministry concluded its statement by reaffirming its dedication to safeguarding national security without compromising individual freedoms. It urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to proceed, reiterating that justice will be served if any wrongdoing is uncovered.
