The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a strong warning to former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, mandating him to appear before the office on June 2, 2025, or risk being declared a fugitive from justice.
In a press release dated March 17, 2025, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, confirmed that Ofori-Atta had earlier contested the OSP’s decision to list him as a wanted person. Following his assurances that he would make himself available for questioning on a set date, the OSP temporarily removed his name from its wanted list.
However, the OSP has now made it clear that should Ofori-Atta fail to appear as scheduled, his name will be re-entered into the list of wanted persons, and the office will initiate an Interpol Red Notice to facilitate his arrest and extradition from any country where he may be located.
The release further emphasized that Ofori-Atta remains the prime suspect in five ongoing corruption and corruption-related investigations. The OSP reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that he is held accountable for his alleged role in these cases.
This latest development adds to the legal troubles of the former minister, who served under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration and has been a central figure in Ghana’s financial sector.
With the OSP tightening its grip on high-profile corruption cases, all eyes are now on Ofori-Atta to see whether he will comply with the summons or face the full force of the law, including potential extradition proceedings.
