Chelsea will have to navigate their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final next week without key duo Levi Colwill and Liam Delap after both players picked up suspensions in Saturday morning’s dramatic 2-1 win over Palmeiras.
Delap, who led the line once again, received a yellow card for persistent fouling just before half time — a caution that sees him ruled out of the upcoming fixture. Colwill, too, saw his name taken by the referee, adding to Chelsea’s selection headache as they eye a spot in the final.
There is some relief for manager Enzo Maresca, however, with striker Nicolas Jackson now available for selection following the completion of his two-match suspension. Jackson was sidelined after receiving a red card in the group stage defeat to Flamengo.
Competition for the striking role will be fierce. Joao Pedro, preferred from the bench against Palmeiras, impressed with a lively cameo and is expected to challenge Jackson for a place in the starting XI next season.
Chelsea will hope their reshuffled side can rise to the occasion as they bid to add another global title to their honours.
