The football community came together in grief today as mourners filled the streets of Gondomar, Portugal, for the funeral of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva. The Liverpool forward, remembered for his brilliance on the pitch and humility off it, was honoured by a gathering that included teammates Virgil Van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, and Alexis Mac Allister.

The funeral followed weeks of celebration for Jota — lifting the Premier League title with Liverpool and marrying his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso. The sudden loss of the brothers in last Thursday’s car crash in Spain has left family, friends, and football fans devastated.

At the service, tributes poured in, with colleagues and supporters paying homage to Jota’s impact on and off the field. As Gondomar said goodbye, the sense of loss was felt far beyond its borders — in Liverpool and across the footballing world.
