The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has inaugurated a new seven-member Board to steer the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), underscoring government’s commitment to combatting sophisticated financial crimes in Ghana.
The newly constituted Board is chaired by Mr. Mike Kofi Afflu, with Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo serving as Chief Executive. Other members include Ms. Grace Mbrokoh-Ewoal representing the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Elizabeth Ama Yankah from National Security, Dr. Kwasi Osei Yeboah, a representative from the Ministry of the Interior (Senior Police Officer), and a representative from the Attorney-General’s Department.
The FIC plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s financial system by detecting and preventing money laundering, terrorism financing, and related offenses.
Notably, the new Chairperson, Mr. Afflu, has previously alleged that GHC52 billion was transferred from a Ghana Commercial Bank account into an unknown account. In light of this claim, observers expect Mr. Afflu to provide clear evidence to substantiate the allegation in order to reinforce public confidence in the FIC’s mandate and credibility.
Dr. Forson urged the Board to prioritize transparency and robust oversight as Ghana continues to strengthen its financial sector governance in line with international standards.
