Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV has reported that Kevin Taylor, the Ghanaian journalist based in the United States, was recently flown into Ghana despite an active bench warrant for his arrest.
According to host Paul Adom Otchere, Taylor arrived aboard United Airlines flight UA996 from Washington D.C., accompanied by an entourage. The program stated that he passed through Gate 19 of Kotoka International Airport, a route typically reserved for high-ranking government officials and diplomats.
Adom Otchere alleged that national security personnel facilitated Taylor’s entry into the country, describing the move as irregular given the outstanding warrant issued by the courts over statements Taylor made from the United States. The court had found those comments to be contemptuous and injurious to judicial integrity, referencing past cases where journalists such as Kweku Baako and Haruna Atta faced legal penalties under similar circumstances.
The program further claimed that Taylor was accommodated at Prestige Lake, the official residence historically occupied by former Vice Presidents John Dramani Mahama and Aliu Mahama. The current Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, reportedly resides elsewhere, leaving the property vacant.
Adom Otchere indicated that Taylor has filed an application to the Supreme Court to contest the warrant. Legal analysts consulted on the program expressed differing opinions about whether this application could be successful.
The information, according to the broadcast, originated from sources within the national security apparatus who were dissatisfied with the arrangement. Adom Otchere announced plans to air excerpts from Taylor’s past video statements, edited to remove personal attacks, in order to provide context for viewers.
At the time of reporting, no official statements had been issued by the government, the Ministry of National Security, or Kevin Taylor. The program suggested that further details may emerge in the coming days.
