National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has publicly criticized Ningo-Prampram MP and Minister of State, Sam George, over his response to recent violence in Ablekuma North.
Speaking on UTV, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah condemned what he described as a growing tendency by some party members to justify or support retaliatory violence. His comments were in direct response to remarks made by Sam George following clashes in Ablekuma North, where tensions flared during political activities.
Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that it is “wrong to endorse the chaos” and stated that Sam George, now a minister, must uphold the principles of leadership and restraint. “Democracy does not allow anyone to exact punishment,” he said. “If someone has been slapped, seeking revenge is also a crime.”
While acknowledging Sam George’s past experiences with political violence, particularly referencing the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election incident, the NDC chairman stressed that public office demands discipline and emotional control.
He also used the platform to call on state institutions to perform their duties effectively, warning that public confidence in the rule of law is eroded when citizens feel compelled to take justice into their own hands. “We must believe in our laws for them to work,” he asserted.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah’s comments followed Sam George’s sharp rebuttal to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who had criticized the Ablekuma North violence. In a strongly worded response, Sam George had asked Dr. Bawumia to “shut up”, questioning his moral authority after the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon incident.
