A man identifying himself as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Delta Force, a known political vigilante group, has been arrested following a video in which he issued threats of violence ahead of the upcoming Akwatia Parliamentary by-election.
Francis Asante, popularly known by his street name “Swanzy” and also referred to as “Nana Kwasi” among close associates, was picked up by national security operatives on the evening of Friday, July 18, 2025. He was arrested at a hideout in Barekese, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North district of the Ashanti Region, according to deep throat sources within the security apparatus who spoke to GBCNEWS.
The arrest comes in response to a disturbing video that has been circulating on social media, in which Swanzy issued a direct threat against the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In the video, he claimed that members of the Delta Force intend to disrupt the upcoming by-election in Akwatia and stated that at least one prominent NPP member would be killed as an act of revenge.
Swanzy alleged in the footage that the NPP had used members of the Delta Force to secure political victory in the 2016 elections, only to later abandon them. His comments, which have sparked widespread concern, are being treated seriously by the security services in light of the country’s efforts to curb political vigilantism.
Sources say Asante is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the charges he may face.
