At the ongoing National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the University of Ghana Stadium, National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha has announced his strong opposition to a proposed amendment that seeks to place an age ceiling on who can contest for the position he currently holds.
According to Mustapha, the motion—if passed—would set a maximum age of 35 for candidates vying for the role of National Youth Organizer. With him already beyond that age, Mustapha argues that the amendment is not only personally discriminatory but also threatens to sideline experienced youth leaders from serving the party.
“I am organizing to oppose this motion because if it passes, I won’t be able to contest again,” Mustapha told reporters. “Age does not automatically disqualify someone from effectively mobilizing the youth.”
The proposed amendment is among several expected to be debated and voted on during the conference as the NPP looks to restructure its internal constitution in preparation for the 2028 elections. The discussion has sparked broader debates within the party about generational leadership, youth inclusion, and experience versus age in political representation.
Stay tuned as more motions come under scrutiny throughout the day.
