In a development likely to stir another round of debate over accountability in public appointments, the University of Utah has formally clarified that Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah is not a Full Professor of Surgery, contrary to claims she has made during public appearances and official vetting processes.
An official email from Piikea Godfrey, Director at the Office for Faculty at the University of Utah’s Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, confirms that Dr. Ayensu-Danquah holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor, a non-tenure-track designation. The university emphasized that she “should not be representing herself as a Full Professor of Surgery.”
This revelation calls into question Dr. Ayensu-Danquah’s claims made during her vetting before Parliament, where she is believed to have falsely stated her academic title. It also raises broader concerns about the integrity of vetting processes and the responsibility of public figures to represent their qualifications truthfully.
In response to the confirmation, private citizens and transparency advocates have indicated intentions to petition Parliament for an official correction of her credentials on government records and websites.
The University of Utah has also noted that it will contact Dr. Ayensu-Danquah directly to request an update of her official title in public representations.
