UNICEF Ghana has opened applications for an opportunity for adolescent girls passionate about girls’ rights and advocacy. The organization is inviting applications from girls aged 10 to 19 to represent Ghana in the inaugural West and Central Africa Region (WCAR) Regional Girls’ Group — a groundbreaking platform that will bring together one young representative from each of the 24 countries in the region.
The Girls’ Group will serve as an advisory body to UNICEF’s regional office over an initial 10-month period, with the goal of shaping a girl-led regional agenda ahead of the WCAR summit scheduled to coincide with International Day of the Girl on October 11 in Dakar, Senegal.
The Ghana representative will help define priorities for girls across the region and engage in a wide range of activities, including co-creating content, co-authoring key documents, and supporting consultations with other adolescent girls. The selected girl will also receive a $1,000 stipend spread across the duration of her involvement.
Role and Responsibilities
As a member of the WCAR Girls’ Group, the chosen Ghanaian representative will:
- Define the regional agenda on issues affecting girls
- Co-create content and contribute to strategic documents
- Co-facilitate consultations in Ghana (optional)
- Help organize and select artwork for a regional girls’ exhibition
- Participate in the regional summit in Dakar
- Engage in advocacy, networking, and monthly Zoom meetings with peers from across the region
UNICEF will provide internet access and space for virtual participation, with language interpretation available for English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish speakers.
Who Can Apply?
UNICEF is looking for Ghanaian girls aged 10–19 who are:
- Passionate advocates for girls’ rights
- Fluent in English (with additional language skills an advantage)
- Digitally literate or willing to learn
- Connected to local communities, networks, or youth-led initiatives
- Interested in topics such as education, gender-based violence, child marriage, menstrual health, SRHR, mental health, and climate action
Prior experience working with UNICEF or other advocacy platforms is considered an added advantage. Diversity and inclusion, including for girls with disabilities, is a key consideration.
