Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has responded to claims made by Paul Adom-Otchere, host of Good Evening Ghana and Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), regarding a controversial contract that has sparked public scrutiny.
In a strongly worded statement, Manasseh accused Paul Adom-Otchere of lying and misleading the public during a special edition of his show, where he addressed allegations surrounding the GACL contract.
According to Manasseh, while his investigation into the contract is ongoing, certain statements by Adom-Otchere cannot go unchallenged.
“You claimed on your show that you did not know the owners of the company that won the shady contracts. Paul, this is false,” Manasseh wrote.
“You have admitted to me, not once but twice, that you knew the owners from the very beginning. I have evidence of this.”
He further alleged that Adom-Otchere had met the company’s representatives a year before they appeared at a GACL board meeting, contradicting his televised denial.
Manasseh also challenged Adom-Otchere’s claim that the contract does not involve state payments, highlighting parallels with other revenue assurance contracts such as those involving Subah and SML Ghana, which have cost the state millions of dollars despite little to no evidence of actual revenue recoveries.
“It’s misleading to suggest that no payment is involved. SML has received $141 million without pointing to a single recovery,” Manasseh stated, referencing his earlier investigations corroborated by the KPMG report.
Manasseh hinted that his full exposé will reveal why the GACL deal is a scandal and why Paul Adom-Otchere, the GACL Managing Director, and the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) will need to answer critical questions.
