In the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers and six others, President John Dramani Mahama has announced interim ministerial appointments to ensure continuity in government operations.
A statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Thursday confirmed that the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been directed to assume additional responsibility as Minister for Defence with immediate effect.
Likewise, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, has been appointed to serve concurrently as the acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology until further notice.
These interim changes come in the aftermath of Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. The ministers were on official government duty en route to Obuasi when the tragic incident occurred.
The appointments are intended to stabilize leadership in vital sectors as the nation grapples with the devastating loss of two senior government officials.
Flags are flying at half-mast across the country as the nation enters a period of mourning. Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces, in collaboration with relevant state agencies, has launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash.
