A tragic scene unfolded on Wednesday afternoon at the Achimota overhead bridge in Accra when a young man reportedly ended his life by jumping from the structure in full view of stunned onlookers.

According to eyewitnesses, the man appeared to be in a hurry, running along the bridge moments before the incident. Without speaking to anyone or showing any sign of hesitation, he leapt over the edge.

“He was just running. No one really knew what was going on. Before we could even think to react, he had already jumped,” an eyewitness recounted, describing the event as too sudden to prevent.

Those who witnessed the fall were left in disbelief. While some rushed to the scene below, it was evident the man had not survived the impact.

Witnesses noted that it took some time for police officers to arrive. By the time the authorities removed the body, the crowd had grown quiet, processing the shock of what they had just seen.

The man’s identity has not yet been confirmed, and the motive behind his actions remains unknown. Police say investigations are ongoing.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of self-harm, please seek help by contacting a mental health professional or calling Ghana’s Mental Health Authority helpline on +233 244 846 701.
