Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan has reversed his decision to retire from the senior national football team, the Black Stars.

The 33-year-old forward made this statement in a tweet after a telephone conversation with President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday (May 22).

“I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith, and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah to help win the AFCON trophy,” the tweet and statement said.

A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded.

Gyan on Monday (May 20), announced the decision to recuse himself from the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament and also retire from the national team over fears he may lose the captaincy, however, President Akufo-Addo in a telephone conversation reportedly urged Asamoah Gyan to consider rescinding his decision to retire.
