Prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Sports Ministry lavished an astounding GHS142,426,907.36 million on the Senior National Teams; the Black Stars and the Black Queens.

According to a document obtained by citinewsroom.com, the Sports Ministry allotted GHS8,183,400,000,000 for the two-leg World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Nigeria.

Following their victory over Nigeria in Abuja on penalties, the Black Stars earned a spot in the World Cup in Qatar.

A total of GHS63,019,369.62 million was made available as funding for the Black Stars’ participation in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, while an extra GHS8,009,366.40 was made available to cover the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s FIFA rights fee.

A total of GHS57,224,301.74 million was also made available by the Sports Ministry as funding to assist the Black Stars in Qatar.

After losing to Portugal and Uruguay in the group rounds of the World Cup event in Qatar, Ghana’s Black Stars were eliminated from the competition.

The senior national team, however, managed to win only one game and that was the game against South Korea in their second group game at the tournament.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, ahead of the World Cup revealed that the budget for Black Stars’ participation at the FIFA World Cup was $14.1 million.

The Sports Minister said, at the time, that depending on the place the Black Stars finish in the World Cup, the sum would be increased.
