It was 4pm in the afternoon. I was locked up in the kitchen washing piles of bowls and utensils. The phone rang. It rang the second time, but my mind was so focused on finishing this chore, so I head to the study room to study.

I heard a knock on the door, so I walked briskly to see who it was. There was Aaron with his face frowned staring at me. I stared back, with several thoughts running through my head “what is it I have done again? why is he here? this boy won’t stop bothering human being?

It was as if time had stopped for a moment then he broke the awkward silence

Aaron: I have been calling you for a very long time now, if you won’t use the phone throw it somewhere.

(Your guess is as good as mine, I mean this is my phone we are talking about, I choose to not hear the call or do whatever I want with it … ah well …)

As if about to utter an essay, I let out;

Me: I am sorry, I was in the kitchen washing dishes, I didn’t hear you call. I’m really sorry.

(Aaron flashed his well-arranged white teeth at me, as usual who am I to resist, I quickly smiled back)

Aaron: I wanted us to go get something to eat in town, but we will first go to the barbering saloon. I need to look good for the wedding I told you about on Saturday.

(Before he could end, I had dashed into the room to quickly pack the things and dress up. I hadn’t even thought of the idea of going to seat in the barbering saloon waiting for Aaron)

I finished up within 30 minutes and went to meet him in his car. We started the journey.

Aaron likes making long calls, I grinned as he spoke to his friend who was about to get married (in preparation towards his big day).

Aaron: (In pidgin) Eii charle, you are wild paa oo. Is that how it is?

Kwesi (Aaron’s Friend): Hw33, you have no idea, hurry up and start the wedding preparations with Mawuena. You guys should just end your fighting games, you like each other.

Aaron: Herh bro, please repeat what you said, she is sitting here by me, madam I am not ready.

(Aaron places the phone on loud speaker and pushes the phone in front of me)

Kwesi repeated.

Kwesi: Mawuena dear, you and Aaron should stop fighting, is that how you two express the love you have for each other. Hoh … I hear you are madam I am not ready. Please we have been waiting for you for long.

Mawuena: Hmm Kwesi, please tell him to stop fighting me over little things. but I have heard you. Congrat in advance, I will try and make it to your most memorable day.

I am sure you can’t wait right?

Kwesi: Eii please no, I wish it was next two years, the fear of the unknown is creeping on me, but I trust God ‘s timing. Adwoa is the good woman I prayed for. (I grinned)

Aaron pulled over to park in front of a barbering saloon, my eyes scanned through and oh my, it was as if there was a football match showing because there were lots and lots (I told you I can exaggerate) of men (boys) in the saloon.

Mawuena: Please, what are we doing here?

Aaron (He looked at me with a scowled face as if to say “young lady, did I not tell you “)

Mawuena: Please take me back home, because, I cannot be here. How do you expect me to be amongst these thousands of guys (eii Mawuena can exaggerate) I just cannot be here? take me home.

Before I could end, there was light out and my fears came to bare

Just then, I saw four strong men walking towards our car …… they were walking slowly in giant steps.

My heart started beating as I cringed to Aaron shirt, my eyes were closed and sweat drip off my forehead in such a cold breezy night.

To be continued ….
