Stonebwoy could get a five-year jail term and/or GHc12,000 fine if charged and found guilty for pulling his gun in public at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA 2019), Joy FM/TV’s Samson Lardy Ayenini has stated.

According to the broadcaster who is also a practicing lawyer, Stonebwoy’s behavior at the VGMA 2019 seems to breach the conditions of his license to carry a gun as prescribed by Ghana’s laws.

The laws, Samson Lardy said, commands that a “person shall not, except in accordance with the terms of a permit granted under this Act or with the prior written consent of the Inspector-General of Police, publicly display any arms or ammunition or discharge a firearm or any other weapon in a public place.”

Those who violate these laws and are found guilty by the courts could be punished with “up to GH¢12,000 and/or plus up to five years in jail for breaching conditions of your license,” the Joy Newsfile presenter added in a piece posted on Myjoyonline.com

Ayenini’s explanation of the law’s position on the gun pulling act comes after Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were both granted bail on Monday, May 20, 2019, after spending the previous night in police custody.

As earlier reported, Stonebwoy had been called on stage to receive the Reggae-Dancehall Artiste of the Year award beating Shatta Wale, Samini, and others.

Unexpectedly, Shatta Wale who was seated in the crowd decided to show up on the stage during Stonebwoy’s speech and it turned into a very chaotic situation leading to Stonebwoy pulling a gun.

The altercation brought the event to a halt for a lot of minutes before calm was restored and the two were picked up to help in police investigations.

Meanwhile, another top media personality, Kwame Sefa Kayi who co-hosted the VGMA has urged the police to revoke Stonebwoy’s license to carry.

According to Sefa Kayi who condemned the two musicians on his Peace FM Kokrokoo morning show, Stonebwoy’s was not emotionally stable or fit to be allowed to own a gun.
