The National Organizer and Board Chairman of the National Youth Employment Agency, Sammi Awuku has stated that the government plans on finishing the Axim sea defense by the end of this year.

His comments come on the back of his tour together with regional NPP executives and the MCE, of the Western region to engage fisherfolk and fishing communities and to also “take feedback on government policies”.

The People’s Appreciation

According to the NPP National Organizer “Fishermen at Evalue Ajomoro Gwira (Axim) couldn’t hide their appreciation of the Nana Addo Govt for the constant supply of Premix fuel”

Key Policies

Sammi outlined a number of policies the government was pursuing with respect to fishing communities and reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling them. Key amongst those policies is the construction of the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira (Axim) sea defense to stem the literal tides of the sea from taking over lands in fishing communities and the use of proceeds from the sale of premix fuel to better the lives of fishermen, women, and children in fishing communities across the country.

Outstanding Promises

One outstanding intervention though is the promised construction of a fishing harbour in the Western Region. It is not quite clear why Sammi included that in the list of things the fisherfolk were excited about but it stands to reason that folks in such communities will benefit immensely if the government construct those harbours and most importantly, maintain them.
