Uber has announced plans to launch a helicopter service called Uber Copter, with rides reportedly starting on July 9 – in the US, not Ghana.
The air service will be available to customers of the ride-hailing company to fly between Lower Manhattan and John F. Kennedy International Airport—setting them back about $200 (GHC1,000) to $225 (GHC1,200) for each eight-minute ride.
Uber investors, however, are not thrilled according to a Fortune report although the ride-hailing company seems optimistic about its new airborne service.
This will be the second Uber service that will not be available in low-income economies such as Ghana. In 2014, Uber launched a food delivery service called Uber Eats and several years down the line, that service is not available in Ghana.
Considering the deployment for Uber Eats, it will be years before Uber considers a helicopter service in Ghana.
