God punish poverty: The running theme on Twitter after Despite’s son’s plush wedding

One of the richest men in Ghana, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, oversaw the wedding of his son, Kennedy Osei on Thursday and the running theme from reactions on Twitter is that poverty should never be entertained or glorified.

Dr. Osei Kwame Despite is a humble man even though very rich and runs a very low profile when it comes to showing off his wealth but Thursday’s wedding — which may have been as low profile as can be for a man of his stature and wealth — drove Ghana into a frenzy.

But the lessons from the man, Despite’s life is very clear — work hard and it does not matter where you are coming from, you will become successful. His friendship with one of his key partners also reveals the depth of his character and loyalty as a businessman and personally.

When you speak to people who have seen him rise from the days he sold cassette tapes at the Central Business District to the CEO of one of the most successful media empires in Ghana, you will understand that success does not come cheap and easy.

While we all admire his success and life, let us shun the get-rich-quick attitude we tend to default to today and employ hard work and commitment to our goals in life.

We join the rest of Ghana to celebrate this great son of the land and to wish his son Kennedy Osei and his bride Tracy, the very best in their union. We know that the best is ahead of them.

Here’s the viral video that got Ghanaians talking and MamaBa to tweet “God punish poverty”:
