The GFA may be thinking about expanding the presidential term limit, according to claims that surfaced in various local tabloids in recent times.
Although no GFA official has verified or refuted the aforementioned allegations, Ghanaians have already expressed differing views on it one of them is an influential personality in the world of football and a former GFA President Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe.
According to Nyaho-Tamakloe, two terms are sufficient for any GFA President to deal with. He cites Kwesi Nyantakyi’s contentious administration as evidence of the need for presidents to avoid overstaying their welcome.
“I feel that is a wrong way to go because it will create a dictatorship, which will rather worsen the performance of the leader,” he told Graphic Sports.
He claimed that Kwesi Nyantakyi’s failure was related to the fact that the FA Presidency term was limitless under the Statutes.
Presidents should be given terms to serve. Because there are good reasons why certain posts have deadlines. The same rule applies to the constitution of Ghana which allows a person to serve two terms in office.
“I’ll battle anyone who says our Constitution should be modified to allow for three terms instead of two, as far as Ghana football is concerned.”
The GFA presidency can only be held for a maximum of two terms of four years each.
