The Referees Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with the Referees Department, has officially announced the date for the mid-season fitness and written examination for referees and assistant referees participating in the Premier League, Division One League (DOL), and Women Premier League (WPL). The event is slated to take place on February 10, 2024.
This year’s mid-season fitness and written examination will be held in Kumasi, bringing together a total of 268 referees and assistant referees from various leagues. The exercise is a crucial component of the 2023/2024 season calendar, aimed at ensuring the officials are well-equipped and up-to-date with the laws of the game.
The breakdown of participants includes 60 male Premier League referees, 60 male assistant referees, 8 female Division One League referees, 70 male Division One League referees, and 70 male Division One League assistant referees. Additionally, there will be 30 Women Premier League referees and 30 assistant referees participating in the mid-season examination.
All participating referees are urged to take note of the importance of the upcoming exercise and examination on the Laws of the Game. This comprehensive assessment is designed to evaluate the physical fitness and theoretical understanding of the game’s rules among the officials.
The GFA Communications department emphasized the significance of these mid-season assessments in maintaining the high standards of officiating in Ghanaian football. The GFA also urged all referees to adequately prepare themselves for the upcoming test, as successful completion is crucial for their continued participation in the leagues.
