In a collaborative effort to bolster drug safety and vaccine regulation in Ghana, Mr. Helmut Hauschild, Head of GIZ West Africa 2, and Dr. Dirk Aßmann, GIZ Country Director, paid an official visit to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana. The visit highlighted the progress Ghana has made in vaccine regulation and marked a significant step toward ensuring the safety of locally produced vaccines.
During the visit, Mr. Hauschild and Dr. Aßmann toured FDA’s state-of-the-art laboratories, gaining first-hand insights into the stringent processes involved in vaccine testing and approval. The tour also included the newly developed cleanroom, funded by the European Union (EU) and GIZ. This cleanroom is a critical facility designed to enhance the production quality of vaccines, ensuring they meet international safety standards.
FDA Ghana, known for its proactive stance in public health regulation, has been working closely with international partners to address the rising demand for safe vaccines, especially amidst global health challenges. The cleanroom is a testament to the ongoing efforts to elevate drug safety protocols and foster self-reliance in vaccine production.
The visit underscores the strong partnership between GIZ and FDA Ghana, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s public health infrastructure. Both Mr. Hauschild and Dr. Aßmann expressed their commitment to supporting these initiatives, which are expected to improve healthcare outcomes not only in Ghana but across the West African region.
This collaboration between FDA Ghana and GIZ reflects the growing importance of local vaccine production and the need for regulatory frameworks that prioritize public safety while aligning with global health standards.
