In a dazzling display of social media prowess, Ghanaian influencer Beno SarkCess turned a playful tweet into a $1,000 windfall, captivating users and highlighting how innovative use of digital platforms can be a powerful marketing tool.
The saga began when Sarkcess posted a tweet featuring photos of a luxury apartment in Ashaley Botwe. Alongside images of a sleek modern kitchen, minimalist bathroom, stylish staircase, and elegant exterior, he humorously asked, “How many likes to stay in one for 50 years?”
The property’s owner responded with a challenge: “50k, and it’s all yours.” Seizing the moment, Sarkcess rallied his followers, writing, “Hello Twitter, 50k likes for an apartment. Like this when it appears on your TL.” The tweet rapidly gained momentum, spreading beyond Ghana’s borders to Nigeria, where users pledged to help meet the target within hours. By the next day, the post had attracted over 21,000 likes and 312,000 views, sparking an unprecedented wave of engagement.
Despite the viral success, the apartment was rented out before the 50,000-like goal was reached. In a twist that delighted followers, the property owner congratulated Sarkcess for demonstrating “what real influence is,” and offered four alternative rewards:
- $5,000 paid weekly over a year,
- $1,000 instantly,
- The use of a luxury vehicle for a month, or
- A rent-free apartment under construction, slated for completion in 2026.
Sarkcess opted for the $1,000 instant payout. Hours later, he shared a screenshot of a MobileMoney notification confirming receipt of GHS 10,427—approximately $1,000—thanking supporters and sparking a flood of trademark Ghanaian replies, with followers cheekily asking for help with everything from fabricated medical bills to imaginary school fees.
