Sampson Agyei, a 38-year-old security officer with Attorney-General’s Department in Koforidua, has been sentenced to 31 years imprisonment for having sex with his daughter.
He pleaded “not guilty” to charges of defilement of a child under 16 years, incest, assault, and the threat of death. Despite his not guilty plea, Sampsom was sentenced by Madam Marian Affoha of the Koforidua Circuit Court.
According to the complainant, Agnes Sakyibea Agyei, a Senior High School graduate her father, the accused, slept with her in 2015 when she was just 14 years old.
Agnes informed her grandmother of the act and instead of reporting the incident, she advised her not to tell anyone about it since it was taboo. Due to her silence, Sampson Agyei continued having sexual intercourse with his daughter while holding a knife–threatening to kill her if she refused.
The accused, who was subsequently arrested, initially denied the offences but later admitted it during an investigation and in his caution statement.
The complainant was then issued with a police medical form, which was duly endorsed and returned to the police and the accused was prosecuted.
