Power Outages Hit Parts of Accra West and Tema Today as ECG Undertakes Maintenance
Residents and businesses in parts of Accra West and Tema are expected to experience temporary power interruptions on Sunday, August 30, as the Electricity Company of Ghana carries out maintenance works on its distribution network.

Parts of Accra West and Tema are expected to be without electricity for several hours on Sunday, August 30, 2026, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) undertakes another round of planned maintenance.
ECG has confirmed maintenance works in its Accra West operational region for Sunday, while separate notices covering Tema indicate that electricity supply will be interrupted in selected communities and industrial areas.
The interruptions form part of ongoing works by the power distributor to address technical challenges and improve the reliability of electricity supply.
Depending on the affected location, Sunday's Tema outages are scheduled to run from either 9:00am to 4:00pm or 10:00am to 4:00pm.
ECG has advised customers within affected areas to make the necessary arrangements for the temporary interruption.
Tema Newtown, Kokompe among areas affected
One of the maintenance exercises in the Tema Region is scheduled between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
Locations expected to be affected include PFC Coldstore, ECG Depot, Wang Heng Cement, GOIL Bitumen, Ghacem, Oyoko, Tema Newtown, Unilever, Ken Coldstore, Jon Moore and Tema Kokompe.
Other affected locations include Mankoadze Foundry, Socatrade, BBC Paints, Irani Brothers, Asempa Coldstore and surrounding areas.
The locations indicate that Sunday's interruption will affect not only residential communities but also sections of Tema's important industrial and commercial enclave.
A separate maintenance exercise in Tema will run from 9:00am to 4:00pm, affecting Verna Oil, Nutri Foods, Platinum Gas and surrounding areas.
Businesses operating within the affected industrial areas may therefore have to rely on alternative power sources for several hours.
Accra West also affected
ECG's official distribution network status also lists planned maintenance works for its Accra West Region on August 30.
The interruption comes at the end of a week in which ECG has undertaken several planned and emergency maintenance exercises within the Accra West operational area.
Maintenance exercises were previously announced for August 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 before Sunday's latest intervention.
ECG says such temporary interruptions are required to allow engineers to work safely on sections of the distribution network and improve service delivery.
The company has apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience.
Series of works across Greater Accra
Sunday's maintenance comes amid wider efforts to address faults and infrastructure challenges affecting electricity distribution across Greater Accra.
ECG has undertaken a series of planned and emergency maintenance operations in recent weeks, while GRIDCo has also been carrying out works on major transmission infrastructure serving the capital.
On August 23, parts of Greater Accra experienced a major planned interruption as GRIDCo worked on a damaged transmission tower along the Tema-Achimota 161kV transmission line.
That exercise was required to facilitate the replacement of a tower at Ashaiman that had been damaged following a tanker explosion.
Sunday's ECG interruptions, however, are separate maintenance exercises affecting portions of the company's distribution network.
Residents and businesses in the listed communities are being encouraged to plan around the outage periods and treat electrical installations as live, as supply could be restored before the advertised completion time.
