Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says Ghana are determined to begin their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with victory.
Ghana will open their tournament campaign against debutants Cape Verde on Wednesday, July 29, at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Björkegren said the team’s fitness levels have improved significantly during their preparation period, leaving the players ready for the challenge ahead.
“We have been in camp for some weeks, and we have improved our fitness level, and we are feeling we are ready for the upcoming game,” he said.
Although the Swedish coach expects a difficult contest against Cape Verde, he expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to secure a positive result.
“We expect a tough game, but we believe in ourselves, and if we do our things, we can start the tournament with a win. At least that’s our goal and target,” he added.
Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Having last featured at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2007, the Black Queens will be hoping for a strong WAFCON campaign as they aim to secure qualification for next year’s global showpiece.
