A swift response by firefighters from the Yendi Fire Station under the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service has prevented a fire outbreak at the Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College from spreading to other parts of the institution.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, 17 August 2026, prompting an emergency response from the Yendi Fire Station, located approximately 61 kilometres from the college.

The firefighting crew was dispatched at 7:28 a.m. and arrived at the scene at about 8:12 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the blaze had engulfed the college’s ICT laboratory and an adjoining classroom within the same vicinity.

The situation posed a significant risk of the fire spreading to other facilities if not brought under control promptly.

Using swift and coordinated firefighting tactics, the team successfully contained the fire by 8:52 a.m., restricting the blaze to the affected laboratory.

Firefighters continued their operations until the fire was completely extinguished at 9:13 a.m.

Their timely intervention prevented the flames from reaching other parts of the institution, thereby saving valuable school infrastructure from potentially extensive destruction. The cause of the fire has not yet been established, with investigations underway to determine what triggered the outbreak and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
