Nigerian musician Davido has rejected allegations that he sent flirtatious messages on Instagram to a young South African woman, saying screenshots circulating online are fabricated.

The Afrobeats star responded to the claims on X on Thursday, August 20, after the alleged exchange generated reactions on social media.

The controversy followed posts by a South African woman identified as Lethabo, who claimed she had received Instagram messages from Davido.

Screenshots attributed to the musician appeared to show compliments about the woman’s appearance and messages interpreted by social media users as flirtatious.

Davido disputed the screenshots and sought to explain why he believes they were not genuine.

He shared details of his verified Instagram business account, including its follower count, number of posts and the platform’s indication that he typically responds within minutes.

According to Davido, the format shown in the circulating screenshots does not correspond with the appearance of messages sent from his business account.

“It’s adults really believing that the screenshots are real. This is how the messages pane should look like. Check the differences,” he wrote on X.

He also accused the person behind the allegations of seeking attention online and questioned why some users had accepted the screenshots as genuine without verifying them.

Davido married Chioma Rowland in Miami in August 2025.
